Abstract:
THE PSYCHODYNAMIC PARENT-CHILD PARALLEL GROUP INTERVENTION: RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE CLINICAL PERSPECTIVE AND THE ANALYSIS OF THE THERAPEUTIC PROCESS
In this paper, the approach denominated Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy of parallel groups of parents and children is presented. The different phases and aspects of the clinical and research work (2002-2014) based on this approach are described, including the epidemiological, diagnostic and therapeutic perspectives. Previous studies focusing on the analysis of the therapeutic process of a group of mothers, which investigated the Group Interaction, the Therapeutic Focus, the emotion-abstraction verbal patterns, and the therapeutic factors proposed by Yalom (1985) are depicted. These studies showed that in the initial phase, rationalization and affect dissociation relating to traumatic situations and child’s disturbance dominate. In the middle phase, experiencing the group as a secure base (therapeutic factor Group Cohesion) enables the group to grow up. In the end phase, the group shows new ways to deal with frustration and social environmental threats.
