LOGICS OF CASTRATION
The research theme “Logics of castration – Borders of the field”, as one may foresee in the title, has two pivots. One the one hand, what one calls “logics of castration”, which we will investigate in Lacan’s and Freud’s texts. On the other hand, we will set the research topic in the clinic of each analyst –by this one means to the cuts and ruptures that they produce within their own production.
As the research corpus is rather extensive, we will narrow it by posing questions that will allow us to situate the borders of the field. Freud formulates castration from the notion of phallus, and it rises as the stop of his clinic, as incurable. Lacan astonishes us with counterposed? statements as regards castration. We will set one of these oppositions to introduce the issue: “castration is prohibition of jouissance” or “castration is jouissance”.
This research spreads upon a particularly rich analytical field, yet dangerous because of its very richness. The rub is to avoid finding our own conceptions of the world on the theme.
