BONDS AMONG COMPLIANCE TO TREATMENTS, SELF-CARE AND PERCEIVED SOCIAL SUPPORT IN PATIENTS WITH DIABETES TYPE 2,
DEPENDING ON AGE, GENDER, SOCIAL CULTURAL LEVEL AND TIME PASSED SINCE DIAGNOSE

A descriptive investigation will be carried in a qualitative -quantitative way, with the objective of determining in patients with diabetes type 2 who attempt in hospitals: the relationship between the compliance to the self care practises; the social support perceived from their families; how jobs can be affected; the relationship with the hospital s staff and its effect. The different hypotheses are: a) the more the satisfaction with the social support is the high the compliance to the self-caring rules will be ; b) the main cause of compliance to the self-caring rules will be the family social support; c) the better the relationship with the health staff is and the satisfaction with their support perceived, the better the self-caring practises that this staff provide will be followed, d) there will be big statistic differences in the compliance with the self caring rules according to the age, gender, time passed since the diagnose, the characteristic of illness, and the sociocultural level of the diabetes patients; e) there will be effects due to the interaction between the social support perceived and some of the socio-demographic variables that have to do with the carrying out of the self-caring rules. For the qualitative face the sampling will be theoretical, and its number will be determined by the information saturation criteria.
Interviews will be made emphasizing the meaning the patients give to the disease. The data will be analyzed through the Grounded Theory, using the software Atlas.ti. These results will be the base of a questionnaire about the social support and family conflicts, work problems and the relationship with the health staff. In the quantitative face it will be taken a statistic random and systematically sample of 330 patients, who attend to public hospitals´ consulting rooms, specialized in diabetes and nutrition. They will be given: a questionnaire about personal information (socio-demographic variables), a questionnaire about social support and family conflicts, work problems and the relationship with the health staff, a scale of frequency of self-care practices. The results will be statistically analyzed with the software Spss 11.5 (Spanish version). After that, a methodologist triangulation will be made of both perspectives´ results. The conclusions will be help to make recommendations which permit more successfully interventions and the decrease of risk factors, in order to achieve an efficient confrontation.
