FORMAL AND INFORMAL THERAPEUTIC STRATEGIES IMPLEMENTED BY PROFESSIONALS AND USERS OF THE HEALTH SYSTEM OF THE METROPOLITAN AREA OF BUENOS AIRES COPING WITH THE PROBLEM OF DEPRESSION
Depression is the mental illness most extended worldwide and the third cause of impairment. The study of depresión has generated an important area of discussion and controversy. There are many theoretical models to consider mental illness: biomedical, ethnographic, and transcultural psychiatry. People affected by this illness cope with it in many different ways: the utilization of diverse therapeutic options in complementary ways. From a professional point of view, different criteria are proposed to combine the therapeutic alternatives. However, it is not very common for professionals and users to gain access to this kind of knowledge. From the distinction between formal and informal ways of therapeutic complementarity, the identification of therapeutic strategies are proposed, both formal and informal, implemented by users of the health system from the metropolitan area of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires when facing the problematic of depression. Specifically, 1) to know the reception that therapeutic proposals of the professional mental health field have, by those who suffer from depression; 2) to know the reception that therapeutic proposals which have international consensus have, by mental health professionals; 3) to provide information to the professional of the mental health system that reduces the distance with population affected by this mental disorder; 4) to know the belief systems of those who are diagnosed as depressive and analyze their role in the election and therapeutic combination; 5) to identify the role that interpersonal factors and the therapeutic relationship hold on the implementation of formal and informal strategies of therapeutic complementarity by individuals that receive the diagnostic of depression. The following hypothesis are considered: 1) people with diagnosis of depression from the metropolitan area of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires combine different therapeutic practices when facing the problematic of depression; 2) the belief systems have incidence on the adopted therapeutic strategy; 3) the mental health professionals use idiosyncratic criteria to combine therapeutic alternatives;4) the current and interpersonal factors have incidence on the adopted therapeutic strategy.
