El presente proyecto de investigación se propone evaluar el aislamiento y la soledad de los cuidadores familiares de enfermos crónicos que denominaremos CFI, cuidador familiar identificado, dado que estos afectan su vulnerabilidad y se relacionan con los mecanismos de afrontamiento implementados.

Los estudios tempranos se centraron en el distress del paciente y estudios posteriores desplazaron este interés al de los cuidadores familiares en su rol de facilitadores del bienestar del enfermo. Omitieron el reconocimiento de las consecuencias de la enfermedad sobre la familia y soslayaron la interacción familia/cuidador. Nos interesa, por lo tanto, encarar en profundidad cómo influye el estilo de afrontamiento y la utilidad del apoyo social percibido de la familia.

A tal fin nuestra hipótesis central es que el apoyo social es una condición que favorece el estado de salud y bienestar del CFI y propende a amortiguar las situaciones propias del cuidado de un enfermo crónico.

El resultado final contribuirá a la creación de sistemas de apoyo psicosocial para familias con enfermos crónicos y a la configuración de mecanismos de afrontamiento alternativos en el CFI.

Se trata de una investigación de carácter exploratorio con un abordaje cuali-cuantitativo, en mujeres distribuidas en dos grupos: madres que cuidan hijos de 0 a 15 años e hijas adultas que cuidan progenitores mayores, en dos grupos de edad.

Se trabajará con una muestra intencional de 140 mujeres.

Se utilizarán instrumentos de evaluación ya validados y se construirán otros ad hoc.

Loneliness in the caregiver, family network of the chronically ill and ways of coping

This research project aims to evaluate isolation and loneliness in caregivers, relatives of the chronically ill, who we will call IFC, identified family caregiver, because these affect their vulnerability and are related with the coping mechanisms implemented.

Former studies focused on the patient's distress , and subsequent studies shifted their interest to the family caregivers in their role of facilitators of the chronically ill well being. But they failed in identifying the consequences of the illness on the family, and left aside the interaction between family/caregiver. We are interested, therefore, in studying in depth, the influence of the coping style and the usefulness of the perceived social support given by the family.

With this purpose, our main hypothesis is that social support is a condition that has a positive influence on health conditions and well-being of the IFC and acts as a buffer regarding the expected situations related to caregiving and the chronically ill.

The final results will allow the creation and delivery of systems of psychosocial support for families with chronically ill members and to the configuration of alternative coping mechanisms in the IFC.

This is an exploratory research, cuali-quantitative, in women divided into two groups: Mothers that are caregivers of children 0-15 years old, and adult daughters that are caregivers of elderly parents, in two age groups.

The sample is intentional and consists of 140 women.

Evaluation scales already validated will be used, and other ad-hoc scales will be built.
