Title: The Spanish lexical system. Its impairment due to brain lesions, its use in normals and its acquisition.
This project is enclosed in Cognitive Neuropsychology frame, and its goals are: 1) to study the functional architecture of the lexical system by means of the analysis of the impairments in reading, writing and oral production produced by brain lesions; 2) to study the peri and sublexical representations and processes; 3) to study the impairments in morphological processing and to compare them with lapsus in normals and during acquisition process; 4) to analyse the influence of Spanish in the organisation of the lexical system and its deficit ; 5) to design batteries for clinician diagnosis. The studies of brain damaged patients will be carried out by means of single case studies and, regarding some particular aspects, multiple single cases and group studies will be used. To study the adult processing and normal acquisition process, errors corpora will be obtained by means of semi-structured tests. The results of the project are expected to increase the knowledge about the organisation of the lexical system and its abnormal deficit in Spanish-speaking subjects, about the improvement of diagnosis instruments and about the rationale of techniques for treatment of language impairment.
