The assessment of therapeutic and didactic outcomes of analytic treatment in the International Psychoanalytic Association

RESUMEN


Palabras clave: Which are the results of psychoanalysis expected as its practical goals? How are assessed its effective outcomes in the IPA? Many research programs have tried to evaluate those results, following two quite different search lines, one started by Robert Wallerstein and Otto Kernberg, and the other by Arnold Pfeffer. The question I intend to answer in the present inquiry is the following: How do they connect the results of those investigations with the training and the authorization of the psychoanalyst? This question would be decisive for an institution created to contribute resolutely to those purposes. The vast project directed by Wallerstein and Kernberg have not considered this question, and Pfeffer´s project, which might contribute to answer it in reason of his design and outcomes, didn’t get institutional consequences. The structure of the associations and institutes from the IPA contrasts with Lacanian "School" design, which intends to focus essentially the connection between the analysis outcomes and the analyst authorization by means of a specific device, the pass. Finally, I scan the IPA autocritic about the analytic training and its impasses.

SUMMARY
¿Qué se espera en la IPA del tratamiento psicoanalítico, y cómo se elaboran allí sus resultados efectivos? A partir de los años 50 distintos programas de investigación han intentado evaluar tales resultados, orientados en dos líneas diferentes. Una es la que iniciaron Robert Wallerstein y Otto Kernberg, la otra es la promovida por Arnold Pfeffer. El objetivo de este artículo es indagar cómo se conecta lo obtenido en esas investigaciones con la formación del psicoanalista, ya que ellas podrían contribuir decisivamente para la institución fundada con fines didácticos. Tanto Wallerstein como Kernberg presidieron la IPA, pero sin embargo su proyecto no considera esa pregunta, mientras que el de Pfeffer, si bien logra discernir resultados propiamente analíticos e incluso didácticos del psicoanálisis, no implicó consecuencias institucionales. Esto permite contrastar el diseño de las asociaciones e institutos de la IPA con la Escuela propuesta por Jacques Lacan, que se estructura en torno al pase, dispositivo propuesto para explorar la conexión entre resultados del análisis y autorización del analista. Se consideran los impasses de la llamada "autocrítica de la IPA" en cuanto a la formación de los analistas, en la que ambos presidentes mencionados tuvieron una participación protagónica.
