La polémica antropológica frente a Tótem y tabú
The anthropological debate facing Totem and taboo

RESUMEN


Palabras clave: This paper is about the long an virulent controversy promoted by the coming out of Totem and taboo ( l9l3) in the world anthropological environment. Even when this debate came to the surface from the very beginning, it turned to a growing fire between l920 and l939 due to Alfred L. Kröeber´s contributions as the was considered the anthropological American leader. This dispute whose decline took place by 1970 is, however, present for the contemporary psychoanalysis because its main objective is to make clear, to elucidate the differences and theoretical articulations among these three concepts: source, truth and cause. S. Freud is accused of building a phantasmagoric theory about the remote origins without taking into account, as he himself makes clear in this writings, that he refers to unconscious structures he finds in his clinical experience with patients, and being these structures inaccessible in the level of the cause, they may only be half or semi-told in the truth of a myth, the one he conceived known as “the myth of the destiny of the primitive horde”. Some misunderstandings arise, beginning by the own Freud’s ones in his writings and followed by the anthropologists’ difficulties to sieve the truth of a paper beyond its contents. It turns impossible for them to accept that only the Freudian clinical experience may be a valid support to enable to build up such a huge reconstruction of the civilization sources. Freud, however, does not stop demonstrating that the truth that made us human nestles in his patients’ unconscious phantasies.

SUMMARY
La aparición de Tótem y tabú en 1913 desató en el ambiente antropológico una virulenta y larga oposición. El maestro de la época A. L. Kröeber escribió un artículo fuertemente opositor en 1920, pero casi veinte años después, en 1913, publicó otro donde se lamenta de “haber aplastado una mariposa con un martillo pilón”. Esta polémica, finalizada hacia 1970, es no obstante importante para el psicoanálisis de hoy, porque gira en torno a la dilucidación de las diferencias y articulaciones entre los conceptos de origen, verdad y causa. Se acusa a Freud de construir una teoría fantasmagórica sobre los orígenes remotos, y se pasa por alto que, según él mismo aclara, se trata de las estructuras inconscientes que encuentra en la experiencia clínica, que siendo inaccesibles a la conciencia, sólo pueden ser semi-dichas en la verdad de un mito. El funcionalismo (Malinowsky, etc.) rechaza la pretensión de universalidad de la estructura edípica, mientras que el estructuralismo (Lévi-Strauss, etc.) rechaza la explicación supuestamente histórica de Freud. En la polémica se suceden una serie de equívocos, empezando por los del propio Freud en su ensayo, y siguiendo por los cometidos por los antropólogos en la lectura del texto. Son prejuicios o malos entendidos que sin embargo nos enseñan, en la enunciación misma de la discusión, cómo es posible acercarse a la verdad por la vía del error.
