Hobbes, the function of exception and the singularity.

RESUMEN

Palabras clave: In the light of the work of Hobbes and some of his main contemporary commenters (Agamben, Esposito and Leo Strauss), the tension between a conception that assumes the social character of man and the one that takes as its starting point his radical unsociability is analised. It is also analised the way this tension is present in Freud and Lacan. The Hobbesian myth of the state of nature and the Freudian one of the primordial horde are compared to each other, as well as the place of exception that Hobbes assigns the sovereign and the singular one that Freud recognizes in the mass’ leader are. But the function of exception does not coincide with that of singularity. Given that Hobbesian souvereign as well as Freudian mass leader inherit their power from the father, this distinction between exception and singularity is relevant for the conception of father’s function. The existence, in Lacan, of a turning from the place of the father as an exception (necessary counterpart of the universal’s all) to that of the father as a symptom, i.e. as a singular (with no necessary reference to the universal’s all) is verified.

SUMMARY
A luz de la obra de Hobbes y de algunos de sus principales comentadores contemporáneos (Agamben, Esposito y Leo Strauss), se analiza la tensión entre la concepción del hombre que supone su carácter social y aquella que parte de su insociabilidad radical. También se analiza cómo se presenta esa tensión en Freud y Lacan. Se compara el mito hobbesiano del estado de naturaleza con el mito freudiano de la horda primordial, así como el lugar de excepción que Hobbes otorga al soberano y el lugar singular que Freud reconoce en el líder de la masa. Pero la función de la excepción no coincide con la de la singularidad. Dado que tanto el soberano hobbesiano como el líder de la masa freudiano heredan del padre su poder, esta distinción entre excepción y singularidad es relevante para la concepción de la función paterna. En Lacan constatamos la existencia de un viraje entre el lugar del padre como excepción (contrapartida necesaria del todos de lo universal) y el del padre como síntoma, es decir como singular (sin referencia necesaria al todos de lo universal).
