HISTORIA DE LA TEORÍA MODERNA DE LA PERSONALIDAD

RESUMEN
Este trabajo resume cinco siglos de desarrollo del concepto de personalidad que aparece en el campo de la filosofía en el siglo XVI, antes que el propio concepto de psicología, en el trabajo de Melanchton. Pero es el siglo XIX el que planteará las raíces intelectuales de este concepto, a través de las ideas de individualismo, irracionalidad/inconsciente, y medición, que explican, de distintas maneras, el desarrollo del actual concepto de personalidad. Es imposible olvidar en este análisis a un precursor como lo fue Leibniz. Tampoco se puede soslayar la importancia de las ideas de Freud expresadas en La Interpretación de los Sueños. Si bien la psicología alemana del siglo XIX fue precursora de este desarrollo, éste se expresó finalmente en los Estados Unidos en el MMPI, y de allí se volcó al resto al resto de las pruebas que hoy conocemos.

ABSTRACT
HISTORY OF A MODERN THEORY OF PERSONALITY
This paper summarizes five centuries in the development of the concept of personality, which appears even before the concept of psychology itself, in the field of philosophy, in Melanchton’s work, during the 16th century. But it is the 19th century that will set this concept’s intellectual foundation through the ideas of individualism, the irrational/the unconscious, and measurement, which explain in a variety of ways the development of the current concept of personality. It is impossible to leave out of this analysis neither a precursor in the field such as Leibniz, nor the importance of Freud’s ideas such as he presented them in The Interpretation of Dreams. While German psychology during the 19th century was a forerunner of this development process, it finally found an expression in the United States with the MMPI, and from there it spread to the rest of the tests we know today.
