Resumen:
El psicoanálisis se ha visto signado, desde sus orígenes, por distintas controversias que -desde dentro y desde fuera de él-cuestionaban su pretensión de cientificidad. En este artículo se discuten algunos de los argumentos esgrimidos en esa dirección, con especial énfasis en aquel que sostiene como propio de esta disciplina el tratamiento de fenómenos «singulares». Se intentará mostrar que todo singular -incluída la subjetividad humana-comporta un universal de particularizaciones cada una de las cuales, a su turno, definen nuevos singulares, y que, el trabajo de la ciencia -en todos los campos en que ella se desarrolla-despliega necesariamente esa dialéctica entre universal, particular y singular. Lo propio del trabajo psicoanalítico queda definido por el recorte que ha hecho de su objeto -en el que deben considerarse también las cuestiones instrumentales como la tranferencia-; por lo demás comparte con el resto de las prácticas científicas un mismo mandato epistémico: «desbordar» los particulares con criterios clasificatorios e intelectivos que no brotan del mundo de los hechos, sino de la interpelación dirigida a ellos por una conciencia epistémica, tal como lo formulara Kant en el siglo XVIII.

Abstract:
Psychoanalysis has been the focus of different controversies wich -from inside and outside of it- questioned its claim for a scientific status. In this article several points are discussed wich have been considered about that issue, especially the one that maintains as a characteristic of this discipline the fact of dealing with «singular» phenomena. The main purpose of the article is to show that every singular -incluiding human subjectivity- implies a universal of particularizations, each of them defining in turn new singulars, and that the scientific labor necessarily develops in that dialectic movement between universal, particular and singular. The distinctive trace of the psychoanalytic labor is defined by the peculiar aprroch psychoanalists build thereby in order to deal with their object. Leaving that aside, psychoanalysis shares with the rest of the scientific practice the same epistemic imperative: «to overpass» the singular with classificatory and intellective criteria wich do not emerge from the factual world, but from the interpretation directed to it by an epistemic consciousness, as Kant formulated in the 18th, century.
