Abstract:
THE THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK AND ITS
This study features the results of empirical research on the theories on which cognitive psychotherapists and psychoanalists either specialized or non-specialized in eating disorders base their clinical practice. A list of authors belonging to different theoretical frameworks- psychoanalysis, cognitive and systemic therapy was presented. The sample consisted of 32 psychotherapists, classified per theoretical model and expertise in the field of eating disorders. The participants were asked to express to what extent the different authors included in the “List of authors”- psychoanalyst, cognitive and systemic-are meaningful and influential in their daily clinical practice. Results show that Freud,Winnicott, Beck, Bowlby, Lacan y Klein are the six authors who ranked in the top positions for being influential on the clinical practice of the participants. Only the psychoanalists specialized on eating disorders manage bibliography from different theoretical frameworks in their clinical practice. The analysis of the results of this study leads to the conclusion that psychotherapeutical treatment of patients suffering from eating disorders is handled with a wider view than that offered by the theoretical framework provided by the one psychotherapists resort to.
