HEMISPHERIC SPECIALIZATION OF EMOTIONAL PROCESSING: A STUDY WITH BILATERAL
MEASUREMENT OF ELECTRODERMAL ACTIVITY
The aim of this study is to investigate hemispheric specialization of emotional
processing . For this reason, there will be evaluated 30 healthy subjects, to
which it will be presented pictures with emotional content (positive and negative).
These stimuli will be presented both in the left and right visual field, according
to the "Divided Visual Field" technique. During this evaluation, bilateral
electrodermal activity will be recorded from two electrodermal activity (EDA)
sensors placed on both hands of the subject. Electrodermal activity measures the
level of arousal to emotional stimuli. The sympathetic nervous system influences
differently on the responses of skin conductance depending on each hemisphere.
Therefore , it is expected to find differences in the responses of skin conductance
between the left and the right hand. The hypothesis of this research is that the
emotional processing of positive stimuli will produce a lateralization to the
left hemisphere ,while emotional processing of negative stimuli will elicit a
lateralization to the right hemisphere.
