The study of war neuroses had a short but important place in the history of the psychoanalytic movement. World War I forced the analytic community and other mental health workers to offer answers to the questions opened by the symptomatology of soldiers that returned traumatized from the battle fields. Even though most of the pressures came directly from members of the Armed Forces and the government that looked forward to quickly returning the soldiers to the front, it allowed psychoanalyst to deepen in the specific mechanisms of these neuroses that continue being pertinent and up to date for contemporary psychoanalysis.
