COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THERAPEUTIC EFFICACY IN EATING DISORDERS: NUTRITIONAL LEVEL OUTCOMES
The purpose of this study was to find out the efficacy of two types of group psychotherapy (Cognitive Behavioural-CBT and Psychodynamic- PDT) in Eating Disorders (Bulimia Nervosa-BN and Binge Eating Disorder-BED) in a 26 late female adolescent sample.
A Pre-post Test design combined with a Paired sample design was used in the nutritional, the psychometric and the clinical levels.
As to the nutritional level, the attendance in the CBT was low and similar in both periods (63% and 55%); in the PDT it was high in the first period (80%) and lower in the second period (59%). The binges decreased less (80%) than the purges (85%) in the CBT whereas the binges (96%) decreased much more than the purges (60%) in the PDT. While the BMI increased slightly in the CBT, the tendency in the PDT was to decrease. The most significant achievement in the nutritional field was to stabilise the eating pattern in both treatments. By the end of the year, 100% in the CBT and 94% in the PDT managed to reach a minimum of 4 daily meals and only one patient did not reach the expected levels. In further studies, the results of the other levels will be shown.
