ASSOCIATIVE FREEDOM. ON THE FUNDAMENTAL RULE AND ITS CLINICAL CONSEQUENCES.
In this article we will focus on three issues: first, we will question the technical nature of the fundamental rule in order to show its connection with the analyst’s position; secondly, we will point out some problems in the way that Freud presented free association from a theoretical point of view in order to solve them from an ethical-clinical viewpoint; finally, we will interpret psychoanalysis’ fundamental rule by radicalizing its reference to freedom. Our interest is to show in the three sections how free association has an ethical value and exhibits different uses inside the device, so that it is revealed as a fundamental type of analytic act.
