Resumen en Inglés:
APPLICATIONS OF THE ITEM RESPONSE THEORY IN THE MODELLING OF CONSTRUCTS OF REASONING ABILITIES AND ATTITUDES Instituto de Investigaciones, Facultad de Psicología, Universidad de Buenos Aires. The aim of this project is to apply some models of the Item Response Theory (IRT) in the measurement of abilities, opinions and attitudes into the educative environment. The abilities that will be considered concern to different kinds of reasoning: verbal, logical and mathematical one. The main interest will be focused on developments of measurement instruments as well as the application of the following IRT models: Thissen & Steinberg’s Multiple Choice Model for analysing of ability items, Three-parameters Logistic Model for their calibration, Samejima’s Graded Response Model and Hoijtnik’s Parella Model for the measurement of opinions and attitudes. The study of Embretson’s Multicomponent Response Models and their possible applications will be initiated. Reasoning verbal items measure the ability for recognizing and discriminating relationship between words. Logical items refer to a kind of reasoning called “logical criterion”, which is characterized as an universal daily reasoning based on the “common sense”. Mathematical items evaluate this ability in a dimension called “conceptual comprehension”. Opinions and attitudes refer to the attribution of responsibility and working-will respectively. The reasoning constructs will be characterized by studying of the validity and fallacies of conditional arguments in items with different contents: abstract, concrete and daily ones.
