Palabras Clave en Castellano:1) Esclerosis Múltiple 2) Funciones Ejecutivas
3) Estatus Laboral
Impact of cognitive flexibility on employment status in patients with Multiple
Sclerosis
Palabras Clave en Inglés 1) Multiple Sclerosis 2) Executive Functions
3) Employment Status
Resumen del tema en inglés: Cognitive flexibility is an executive function
that enables subjects to adapt themselves to new situations and modify their
behavior in accordance with the context, an important capacity for work performance.
In patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) has been found cognitive impairment,
including executive functions. In addition, a high percentage of unemployment
was documented compared to the general population. In our country there have
not been reports about the relationship between the most frequent cognitive
impairments, executive deficits and unemployment in MS. The model proposed in
this project would help to analyse this relationship. The general objective
will be to study the impact of cognitive flexibility on the employment status
of MS patients. Moreover, the relationship between processing speed and working
memory on cognitive flexibility and employment status will be investigated.
Finally, the relationship of employment status with fatigue, depression and
memory will be analysed. One hundred and twenty MS patients will be evaluated.
Neuropsychological assessment instruments and employment questionnaire will
be administered. The findings may help professionals to improve their understanding
of the relationship between cognitive impairment in MS and unemployment, which
will benefit future job adaptations.
