campo de la memoria social): acontecimiento y representación;
testigo, testimonio y escucha; olvidos, repeticiones y
recuerdos; pasado y presente.
"History of the psychoanalytical notion of "trauma"
and of its uses in the clinical and historiographical
fields.”
This research project is located in the intersection of
two fields: the historical investigation of psychoanalytic
ideas and practices, and the historiographical debates
in which certain categories stemming from psychoanalysis
have been influential. We will undertake a history of
the notion of “trauma” as it was constructed
and modified throughout Freud’s works. Moreover,
we will try not to reduce our research to an internal
history of Freudian doctrines and practices. Hence, psychoanalytic
ideas related to this notion will be embedded in a complex
net of problems, including the theoretical and technical
discussions about the psyche and psychotherapy, as well
as professional, cultural and political processes.
Behind the notion of “trauma”, a net of topics
can be overseen that may interest psychoanalysis and history
(the field of social memory, in particular): event and
representation; witness, testimony and listening; oblivion,
repetition and memories; past and present.
Therefore, after having sketched a genealogy of the notion
of “trauma”, our research will be focused
in the "uses" of psychoanalytical categories
(its possibilities and limits) in the field of historiography
and social memory studies.
