SHR y KY.
Resumen en inglés:
Frustration is an emotional state produced by the surprising omission in quantity
and/or quality of an appetitive reinforcer. For frustration to occur, the animal
must compare the present reinforcer with the memory of the previous rewards. In
another line of research, it was found that hypertension impairs cognitive functions.
For example, hypertensive rats (SHR) show a larger decrease in memory and learning
than normotesive rats (KY). Moreover, positive effects of environmental enrichment
upon cognitive functioning variables such as learning and memory have been found.
The goal of the present set of experiments is to study the effects of environmental
enrichment and hypertension upon frustration in rats submitted to a Sucessive
Negative Contrast (SNC) procedure. The following results are expected: 1) SHR
to show a stronger frustration response than KY rats; 2) Environmental enrichment
to diminish frustration response differences between SHR and KY rats; 3) SHR to
present a diminished contrast effect as the retention interval between pre- and
pos-shift phases gets longer, relative to KY and Sprague-Dawley rats; 4) Environmental
enrichment to attenuate the differences in memory performance in the SNC procedure
between SHR and KY rats.
