Abstract:
COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THERAPEUTIC EFFICACY IN EATING DISORDERS. OUTCOMES OF THE CLINICAL-THERAPEUTIC LEVEL
The purpose of this study was to research the efficacy of two types of group psychotherapeutic approaches (Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy-CBT and Psychodynamic Therapy-PDT) for Eating Disorders (Bulimia Nervosa-BN and Binge Eating Disorder-BED) in a sample of 26 female late adolescents.
A Pre-Post Test design, combined with a Pair Sample design in three assessment levels: Nutritional, Psychometric and Clinical-Therapeutic, was used. The Adherence in the PDT was observed to be higher in the five areas assessed in the Clinical-Therapeutic level, since 9 patients out of 16 (56%) requested to continue their psychotherapeutic treatment whereas just one patient requested this in the CBT. The Symptoms improved twice as much in the PDT (69%) compared to the CBT (30%). The intra and extra family Bonds improved considerably in both approaches (70 % in the CBT and 75% in the PDT).
As to Life Quality, it was improved by 60% in the CBT and by 81% in the PDT whereas, in connection to the Psychic Functioning, 60% in the CBT and 88% in the PDT increased their capacity to think about themselves and their histories. Both therapeutic approaches turned out to be efficacious to treat these pathologies although the evolution was fluctuating throughout the one-year treatment.
