visual (MEVi).

COGNITIVE MARKERS AS INDICATORS OF THE EVOLUTION RATE OF THE ALZHEIMER´S
DISEASE: A LONGITUDINAL STUDY
Palabras Clave en Inglés
1) Cognitive markers 2) Evolution rate 3) Alzhiemer´s Disease
Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease. Its first
clinical manifestation is the Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), characterized
by a significant decrease in one or more cognitive domains, mainly memory. It
evolves to a clinical AD when alterations in the functionality of the patient
are observed. There are few studies that had studied the rate of evolution of
the disease from its early clinical stages to its most severe stages. This is
probably due to the heterogeneity observed in different cases. Knowing the rate
of evolution of AD would not only provide information about the course of the
disease, but also help in the design of early treatments. We intend to establish
those cognitive markers that may be indicators of the rate of progression from
MCI to AD and from mild AD to moderate / severe AD.We will evaluate as cognitive
markers the Cognitive Reserve (CR), the pre-morbid intelligence (PMI), the logical
memory (LM), the verbal episodic memory (VeEM) and the visual episodic memory
(ViEM).
