Sublimation, once again. Questions and debates concerning body art.

RESUMEN


Palabras clave: The purpose of this paper is to reopen the debate on the artistic practices classified under de general category of “body art”, considering their connexion to the most problematic of drive’s vicissitudes, that is, the concept of sublimation. Our starting point is a discussion of the work by Massimo Recalcalti, The three aesthetics of Lacan (published in Spanish in 2006) – a text of reference on the subject– where those practices are categorised as psychotic or perverse, strongly rejected, discredited and pointed out as a counter-example of what should be considered a “work of art”. Basing on a critical analysis of the conceptual scheme developed by the author, so as to pierce the argumentation, I intend to bring up some concepts and theoretical guidelines that enable a different approach to the troubling practices of body art.

SUMMARY
El objetivo de este artículo es reabrir el debate a propósito de las prácticas artísticas englobadas bajo la denominación general de body art, en relación con el concepto de sublimación, el más problemático de los destinos pulsionales. El punto de partida de la discusión es la propuesta de Massimo Recalcati en Las tres estéticas de Lacan (2006), donde dichas prácticas son calificadas como psicóticas o perversas, descalificadas y utilizadas como contra-ejemplo de lo que cabe entender por “obra de arte”. En base a una meticulosa lectura crítica del entramado conceptual desplegado por el autor, de modo tal de agujerear la argumentación, procuro plantear algunos conceptos y líneas teóricas que permiten efectuar otra clase de aproximación a las siempre inquietantes prácticas del body art.
