La importancia del diagnóstico de neurastenia para la comprensión de los síntomas neuróticos en la actualidad.

RESUMEN

A finales del siglo XIX y principios del siglo XX, un importante diagnóstico de neurosis ya obsoleto reunía un conglomerado de síntomas difusos que en su momento sirvió como explicación científica para distintas molestias presentadas por la sociedad de la época, era la Neurastenia. El diagnóstico de neurastenia es un referente de la transición de la tradición psiquiátrica anatomo-clínica al modelo psicogénico, de cómo los conceptos de salud y enfermedad están relacionados con el contexto sociocultural y de cómo una enfermedad puede también ejercer un importante papel social. Al principio del siglo XX la neurastenia tuvo su declive como diagnóstico, sin embargo, sus síntomas jamás desaparecieron, y siguen presentes en distintas categorías psicopatológicas de la actualidad. El presente artículo trata de un breve recorrido histórico sobre la Neurastenia, a partir del discurso médico de fines del siglo, de su importancia social y para la comprensión del surgimiento de estas nuevas categorías.

ABSTRACT

The importance of the diagnosis of neurasthenia for the understanding of neurotic symptoms today.

At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, an important diagnosis of neurosis, already obsolete, brought together a conglomeration of diffuse symptoms that at the time served as a scientific explanation for different discomforts presented by the society of the time, it was Neurasthenia. The diagnosis of neurasthenia is a benchmark of the transition from the anatomoclinical psychiatric tradition to the psychogenic model, how the concepts of health and disease are related to the sociocultural context and how a disease can also play an important social role. At the beginning of the 20th century, neurasthenia declined as a diagnosis, however, its symptoms never disappeared and are still present in different psychopathological categories today. This article deals with a brief historical review of Neurasthenia, from the medical discourse of the end of the century and its social importance and for understanding the emergence of these new categories.
