El objetivo de esta investigación es efectuar un análisis histórico de la Revista Magnetológica, órgano de difusión de la Sociedad Magnetológica Argentina, fundada en 1896 por un grupo de científicos provenientes de las filiales locales del espiritismo y la teosofía. En esta oportunidad nos concentraremos en un primer tramo de la mentada publicación (1897-1903), con el cometido de rastrear, por un lado, qué conceptos sobre la hipnosis y el magnetismo se transmitían desde esas páginas, y por otro, qué tipos de prácticas curativas eran llevadas a cabo por los miembros de la institución. De esa manera, este estudio intenta realizar un aporte sustancial a un reciente campo de trabajo, abocado a la reconstrucción histórica del desarrollo del hipnotismo terapéutico en la ciudad de Buenos Aires a fines del siglo XIX. De hecho, el trabajo proyectado pretende mostrar que, tal y como ha sido adelantado por algunas investigaciones precedentes, la herramienta de la hipnosis fue utilizada en ese período por actores sociales que fundamentaban su quehacer desde marcos teóricos divergentes, y que se inscribían en tradiciones contrapuestas. La Revista Magnetológica refleja, de modo inmejorable, la participación de los espiritistas en esa historia.

HYPNOSIS AND MAGNETISM IN THE MAGNETOLOGIC MAGAZINE (1897-1903)

The objective of this research is to conduct a historical analysis of the Magnetologic Magazine, diffusion tool of the Argentinean Magnetologic Society, founded in 1896 by a group of scientists from local branches of spiritualism and theosophy. This time we will concentrate on the first tranche of the mentioned publication (1897-1903), with the task of tracking, on the one hand, what concepts of hypnosis and magnetism were transmitted from those pages, and on the other, what types of healing practices were conducted by members of the institution. Thus, this paper attempts to make a substantial contribution to a recent field of work, dedicated to the historical reconstruction of the development of therapeutic hypnotism in the city of Buenos Aires in the late nineteenth century. In fact, the projected work attempts to show that, as has been advanced by some previous investigations, the hypnosis ?tool? was used in that period by social actors who based their works on divergent theoretical frameworks that were part of conflicting traditions .The Magnetologic Magazine reflects, in an unbeatable way, the spiritualists? participation in that story.
