El prejuicio y las relaciones intergrupales siguen siendo temas de especial interés dentro de la literatura, específicamente en el marco de la psicología política, distintas teorías lograron avances importantes en la comprensión de la dinámica del conflicto intergrupal, la estereotipia y la denigración del exogrupo. Dentro de ellas destaca la teoría de la Dominancia Social (SDT) que trató de delimitar qué mecanismos producen y sostienen las jerarquías sociales, surgiendo en este contexto la Escala de Orientación a la Dominancia Social (SDO) encargada de medir la predisposición de los individuos hacia el mantenimiento de relaciones intergrupales jerárquicas y no igualitarias (Pratto, Sidanius, Stallwarth y Malle, 1994). Recientes investigaciones han señalado la existencia de una estructura bifactorial de la escala: Antiigualitarismo y Orientación a la Dominancia Grupal (Jost y Thompson, 2000; Sidanius y Peña, 2002), a pesar de que en la formulación original se abogaba por la presencia de un constructo unitario. La escala ha sido ampliamente utilizada en diferentes contextos culturales, sin embargo, no parece existir ninguna validación de la misma al contexto argentino, utilizando para ello modelos de ecuaciones estructurales (SEM), este será el interés del presente estudio, recurriendo para tal fin a una muestra de 450 estudiantes de la Universidad de Buenos Aires.

Adaptation and validation of the Scale of Social Dominance Orientation (SDO) to the argentine context.

Prejudice and intergroup relations are still topics of special interest in literature, specifically in the context of political psychology, various theories achieved significant progress in understanding the dynamics of intergroup conflict, stereotyping and denigration of the outgroup. Among these highlights the Social Dominance Theory (SDT) that tried to define what mechanisms produce and maintain social hierarchies arising in this context the scale of Social Dominance Orientation (SDO) responsible for measuring the predisposition of individuals to the maintenance of hierarchical intergroup relations and not equal (Pratto, Sidanius, Stallwarth and Malle, 1994). Recent research has shown the existence of a scale factor structure: anti-egalitarians and Group Dominance Orientation (Jost & Thompson, 2000; Sidanius & Peña, 2002), although the original formulation advocated by the presence of a unitary construct. The scale has been widely used in different cultural contexts, however, there seems no validation of it to the argentine context, using structural equation modeling (SEM). This will be the focus of this study, using for that purpose a sample of 450 students from the University of Buenos Aires.
