La teoría de la justificación del sistema (Jost, 1994) señala que los individuos poseen una motivación para justificar y racionalizar los sistemas sociales a los que pertenecen, de manera que los acuerdos sociales, económicos y políticos tiendan a ser percibidos como justos y legítimos. Jost (2000) se centra en la justificación del sistema económico que permite la percepción de un mundo ordenado y controlable, facilitando una reducción de la ansiedad. Asimismo, sostiene a nivel teórico que ésta podría estar relacionada con variables psicológicas como la orientación a la dominancia social y el autoritarismo del ala de derechas. La primera, se refiere a la predisposición individual hacia las relaciones intergrupales jerárquicas y no igualitarias (Sidanius & Pratto, 1999) y la segunda a la covariación de tres conglomerados actitudinales: sumisión autoritaria, agresión autoritaria y convencionalismo (Altemeyer, 1981). Ambas son dimensiones actitudinales que tienden al conservadurismo político facilitando la justificación del sistema económico, ya que proporcionan al individuo esquemas rígidos y poco amenazantes con respecto a la organización de la sociedad. El objetivo principal de este proyecto es analizar si la orientación a la dominancia social y el autoritarismo del ala de derechas se encuentran relacionados empíricamente con la justificación del sistema económico.

THE PSYCHOLOGICAL BASES OF ECONOMIC SYSTEM JUSTIFICATION.

The system justification theory (Jost, 1994) notes that individuals have a motivation to justify and rationalize the social systems they belong to, so that social, economic and political arrangements tend to be perceived as fair and legitimate. Jost (2000) focuses on the economic system justification that allows the perception of an ordered and controllable world, providing a reduction of anxiety. Also, theoretically sustains that this variable could be related to psychological variables such as social dominance orientation and right wing authoritarianism. The first refers to an individual's predisposition toward hierarchical and inegalitarian intergroup relations (Sidanius & Pratto, 1999) and the second to the covariation of three attitudinal conglomerates: authoritarian submission, authoritarian aggression, and conventionalism (Altemeyer, 1981). Both are attitudinal dimensions that tend to political conservatism and facilitate economic system justification, since they provide the individual rigid and small threatening schemes regarding the organization of society. The main objective of this project is to analyze whether social dominance orientation and right wing authoritarianism are empirically related to economic system justification.
