El dogmatismo: sistema cerrado de creencias, autoritarismo e intolerancia

RESUMEN

El concepto de dogmatismo teorizado por Rokeach (1960) surgió como alternativa a los desarrollos de la personalidad autoritaria de Adorno et al. (1950) cuya teorización del fenómeno autoritario se circunscribía a la esfera política de derechas. La propuesta de Rokeach (1960), estudia el fenómeno del dogmatismo como la convergencia de tres conjuntos de variables íntimamente relacionadas: los sistemas de creencias, el autoritarismo y la intolerancia. Esta perspectiva tuvo como eje central las creencias de las personas, y su propósito fue analizar los niveles de tolerancia de un individuo hacia otros que piensan de modo diferente. De esta manera, la propuesta teórica de Rokeach (1960) permitió analizar si los individuos defendían sus creencias de manera dogmática, independientemente del contenido de las mismas (e.g. científicas, religiosas, políticas). El objetivo principal de este trabajo fue analizar los diferentes componentes del dogmatismo, particularmente la intolerancia y el autoritarismo (Duckitt, 2010).

ABSTRACT

Dogmatism: closed system beliefs, authoritarianism and intolerance

The concept of dogmatism theorized by Rokeach (1960) emerged as an alternative to the development of the authoritarian personality by Adorno et al. (1950) whose theory of the authoritarian phenomenon confined to the right wing political orientation. Rokeach (1960) studies the phenomenon of dogmatism as the convergence of three closely related sets of variables: belief systems, authoritarianism and intolerance. This perspective meeting focused people's beliefs, and its purpose was to analyze the levels of tolerance of an individual to others who think differently. Thus, the theoretical proposal of Rokeach (1960) allowed to analyze whether individuals defending their dogmatic beliefs, regardless of their content (e.g. scientific, religious, political). The aim of this paper was to analyze the different components of dogmatism and intolerance particularly authoritarianism (Duckitt, 2010).
