Cuidando a Un Familiar Enfermo. Una Aproximación Cualitativa

RESUMEN

El objetivo del trabajo es presentar un enfoque cualitativo acerca del significado de cuidar a un familiar enfermo. Se trabajó con una muestra compuesta por madres que cuidan a sus hijos, e hijas que cuidan progenitores ancianos, de diferentes niveles de educación. Se utilizó la técnica de la entrevista focal, que permitió la emergencia de la problemática del cuidador familiar, así como el sistema de creencias subyacente, los sentimientos y la modalidad de afrontamiento. Dicho afrontamiento, transcurre dentro de un clima emocional de grandes contradicciones, ligados tanto a la asunción de la responsabilidad parental, como a la historia de la relación de apego previa en las hijas cuidadoras. En ambos grupos cobra importancia la perspectiva del futuro.

ABSTRACT

Taking Care of A Chronically Ill Relative

The aim of this paper is to present a qualitative approach about the meaning of taking care of an ill family member. We worked with a sample of mothers taking care of their ill offspring and with daughters taking care of their ill aged parents, with different educational levels. We used the focal interview technique, which allowed the emergence of family caregivers issues, as well as the underlying believe system sistem, the feelings and ways of coping in an emotional climate of great contradictions related to the parental responsabilities and to the history of the previous attachment bonds of the daughters as caregivers. The perspective of future is important in both groups.
